Long time no time…

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Howdy friends! Been super busy with so many crazy things! Wanted to drop a quick update and let you all know I was still alive and kicking.

Packing my bags right now to leave tomorrow morning for the Gem & Jam Music Festival in Tucson, AZ! Very excited for this, but one of my band-mates bags was left at the airport during a connecting flight! Hope it makes it.

Anyways, I’ve been up to tons of stuff, a brief overview follows:

  • Learning Objective-C & iPhone/iPad Development
This has been so much fun! I really enjoy learning cool new languages, especially after learning OOP…It’s just so simple to hop from Actionscript 3 to Objective-C..I will post a nice article showing the similarities as I find time.
  • Working on tons of new music with my band!
  • Hanging with my amazing family!
  • Reading lots
  • Exploring the caverns of my unconscious
  • Working on TONS of cool new projects & products, including, but not limited to:
    • An AMAZING Illuminated project
    • A video portal
    • Open GL Music Visualization Software
    • JamMaps
    • A sharp underwater animal (hrmm…whats this?)
    • Re-branding DestroyYourComputer
    • Clothing line with my amazingly awesome funginearian buddy
    • Some video game building action…

Needless to say, LOTS of great times, which unfortunately makes me unable to post as much as I would like on the blog. As time opens up though, expect some cool new stuff here!

Until next time, blessings & love to you and your flow.

Adobe MAXIf you didn’t get to go to Adobe MAX (Don’t worry, I didn’t either), you can still see most of the sessions online. Some cool ones to check out are Flex for mobile, Flash Builder 4 Advanced Tips & Tricks, Effects in Flex 4, Building Applications for iPhone with Flash and Tackling Memroy And Performance in Flash, Flex & Adobe Air.  It’s filled with great content, so don’t stop there.

Time Tracking & Invoicing

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

Billings 3I’ve been hand-making invoices in Photoshop for the last 10 years, without even knowing that there are other options!

I somehow stumbled upon Billings for mac, and Harvest, web-based time-tracking & invoicing software, both in the same weekend!

I don’t know how I was able to do things the old way. The new software these days is so easy & useful. You create your client, project & tasks…Then track the hours, either manually, or with easy to use tracking software. Your hours are organized by client, and you can see all kinds of great reports on how many hours you’ve worked, how many hours left on the budget and how much you’ve earned.

The best part about the software, is the automated invoice creation & delivery. You just pick a client & project you want to send an invoice for, and it generates a beautiful invoice then sends it along. You can look back on your old invoices, which are well-organized for accounting purposes.

While I prefer the interface and usability of Billings, I would rather have everything be web-based, so I can access and send out my invoices from anywhere.

Harvest Time Tracking

Billings costs a one-time $39, while Harvest cost $12 per month. I know the $12 a month looks a bit steep after seeing Billings one-time fee, but I guess you just pay for the mobility of the software. Harvest also has an iPhone App that allows you to access your account via your phone!

But Billings is just so beautiful, look at the following screenshot (click to zoom).

You just need to decide on if you want to access your time-tracking software from anywhere, or if you want a super-beautiful mac version. Doesn’t really matter which choice you go with, either of these, or one of the many other choices, will help you save time & be more organized with your invoicing.

Flash OFFICIALLY On The iPhone!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

That’s right! Adobe announced a short while back at MAX that Flash Professional CS5 will be able to output real iPhone App’s that can go into the iPhone App Store! Here’s a brief snip from adobe, make sure you check out the video, which shows a few Apps already in the App Store!

Flash Professional CS5 will enable you to build applications for iPhone and iPod touch using ActionScript 3. These applications can be delivered to iPhone and iPod touch users through the Apple App Store.

A public beta of Flash Professional CS5 with prerelease support for building applications for iPhone is planned for later this year.

If you are looking to start developing App’s for the iPhone, check into this article from Adobe. There is also a very comprehensive FAQ on developing AS3 for the iPhone and a developers forum. I would also sign up to find out when the beta becomes available.

This is going to be a very interesting development for the iPhone! Expect DestroyYourComputer to release plenty of App’s in the near future!
