Long time no time…

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Howdy friends! Been super busy with so many crazy things! Wanted to drop a quick update and let you all know I was still alive and kicking.

Packing my bags right now to leave tomorrow morning for the Gem & Jam Music Festival in Tucson, AZ! Very excited for this, but one of my band-mates bags was left at the airport during a connecting flight! Hope it makes it.

Anyways, I’ve been up to tons of stuff, a brief overview follows:

  • Learning Objective-C & iPhone/iPad Development
This has been so much fun! I really enjoy learning cool new languages, especially after learning OOP…It’s just so simple to hop from Actionscript 3 to Objective-C..I will post a nice article showing the similarities as I find time.
  • Working on tons of new music with my band!
  • Hanging with my amazing family!
  • Reading lots
  • Exploring the caverns of my unconscious
  • Working on TONS of cool new projects & products, including, but not limited to:
    • An AMAZING Illuminated project
    • A video portal
    • Open GL Music Visualization Software
    • JamMaps
    • A sharp underwater animal (hrmm…whats this?)
    • Re-branding DestroyYourComputer
    • Clothing line with my amazingly awesome funginearian buddy
    • Some video game building action…

Needless to say, LOTS of great times, which unfortunately makes me unable to post as much as I would like on the blog. As time opens up though, expect some cool new stuff here!

Until next time, blessings & love to you and your flow.

Music for a relaxed & creative work environment Part II

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

TelepopmusikHere is the 2nd installment of my musical suggestions for working. If you missed the first, be sure to check it out. I explained how music helps me get into “the flow”, that timeless space where observer and the observed disappear, while all that remain is all that there is.

After a few hours in this space, you will probably agree that its the most effective way to work, let alone most rewarding.

So enjoy, I hope this music helps bring you the enhanced creative experience it did me…

  • Telepopmusik – Super sweet chill beats
  • Air – Otherworldly relaxation session
  • Zero7 – Same as above ;D
  • Bonobo – Bit more up-tempo but definitely gets you into the ZONE
  • Hooverphonic – Out of this world!

Have any suggestions of music that helps make your environment comfy? Post them in the comments!

Musical suggestions for a relaxed & creative working environment

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

TychoA relaxed environment is one of the most important things you need to get into the flow. What’s the flow, you ask? It’s that place you go when time disappears. You merge with whatever you are doing, and it becomes effortless. This happens for professional sports players, musicians (music was my first experience with it), programmers, anything really.

It’s the most efficient you can get. You’ve mastered your tools, made the process instinct. But you can’t force it…It’s like it’s said in the Tao Te Ching:

Look for it, and it can’t be seen.
Listen for it, and it can’t be heard.
Grasp for it, and it can’t be caught.

You have to bring it out, without forcing it. It must come of its own accord.

I have found that music is the most effective way for me to get into the flow. I turn on something that takes me on a mental journey. Put on the headphones, and get lost in my work.

The following is the first of hopefully many, musical suggestions. I have personally gotten into the deepest levels of creative-trance with these artists.

Have any suggestions of music that helps make your environment comfy? Post them in the comments!

Commercial Breakers TV Spot

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

This commercial “subvertisement” made by AdBusters really brings it home!

According to their post:

We’re continuing our campaign for media democracy with a series of subvertisements aimed at disrupting the promotion of overconsumption and attacking the legitimacy of advertising. We want the right to broadcast these subverts and we’re willing to pay, but the major networks aren’t willing to air them. So far FOX has officially rejected our first spot, COMMERCIAL BREAKERS, and MTV has cut off communication entirely.

The idea behind COMMERCIAL BREAKERS is simply to sabotage the meaning of advertising and undermine the power of brands. The average TV ad presents the consumer with a crisis: a crisis of identity, a crisis of hunger, a messy floor, an unsightly blemish or erectile dysfunction. The crisis is always a crisis of choice, but there is only one choice: the product being advertised. Each ad expresses an individual brand’s vision of utopia; a perfect world constructed around a singular message: if you buy the product being advertised, you will be happy and content … if only for a moment.

This consumer utopia – beamed into our consciousness 24/7 – is a distraction from our real crisis, be it existential, spiritual, environmental, economic or political. And so rather than interpret advertising as a choice between colas or a choice between brands, we seek to reinterpret it as a choice between the real and the artificial. It’s not Pepsi vs. Coke, it’s Cool Diet Cola vs. Climate Doom.

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Just finished the initial launch of our blog for Organic Collective! We will be putting live mixes, videos and lots of other fun stuff up there. I’m really starting to like Wordpress! The skinning is very easy to do, and the back end is just beautiful.

Our new album “Bass Chakra” will be coming out very soon too! We are in the process of mastering it ourselves, and its our first time on our own! Can’t wait to finish it up and share it with you all!

I also finished the artwork for the album! Here is a sneak peak!
